Jelly Sandwich Tutorial

Ever wonder how Jelly Sandwich is done? Here's a quick tutorial for you :)

First you have to ensure that the consistency of the nail polish is in Jelly form. Jelly namely something not opaque and not cream. After swatching it is close to transparent with just a hint of color. Something like what the salon uses (the pinkish color over the white) for a french manicure.

Get one of those, and have something light colored with big glitters inside as seen in Pirouette My Whistle.

This is how it looks like with two coats of Bubble Bath. See how the color in the bottle does not coat the bottle entirely? That is one sign of a Jelly polish as a cream would coat the bottle after you roll it and let it settle for a while.

This is the final product of the Jelly Sandwich mani. After putting two layers of Bubble Bath, add a layer of Pirouette My Whistle. After that is dried, coat another layer of Bubble Bath. It is often mistaken that the jelly look is achieved with alot of top coat. But it is the semi transparent color that gives the whole manicure a suspended look and not the top coat.

Above is before the final layer of Y'all Come Back Ya Hear? which looks shinier and less Jelly-fied.

These are the final Jelly Sandwich look using OPI's Y'all Come Back Ya Hear? and OPI's Pirouette My Whistle.

Good to know facts:
Jelly is a sheer polish that is meant to be layered multiple times. Shiny and gives the look of depth on the nail. Jelly polishes are great for layering with glitters and flakies too :D

Now, Jelly Sandwich, is when you put down a few layers of jelly (usually two layers), then a layer of glitter or flakie polish, and then top it with another layer of jelly. The jelly is sheer, hence, the layer below it are visible, yet looks like it is buried or suspended in the polish.

Now that you know what's a Jelly Sandwich, here are some things that we recommend and used to demonstrate this tutorial. Product used are also available @ Deux Polish!
  • OPI Base Coat (RM33)
  • OPI Bubble Bath (RM33)
  • OPI Pirouette My Whistle (RM33)
  • Seche Vite Top Coat (RM33)
So what do you guys think? :D We personally have a growing interest in Jelly Sandwich & we want to know if you have developed the same feeling too. Have fun and enjoy giving it a try! :D
